We are MedCity REFUGE, a nonprofit which supports those coming to Rochester, MN for gender-affirming care. Our aim is to
- support individuals who face significant obstacles in seeking gender-affirming care
- provide resources, community fellowship, and affordable lodging
- nurture the emotional and physical well-being of those in need of these medical supports

Our Work
Right now, we continue to develop our organization. Once we are able to turn from administration to active support, these three principles will be our foundation.
Lodging
Everyone deserves a safe place, especially during times of great change. We are here to provide a basic human necessity—shelter. One day, our hope is to have a home to hold many guests and their supporters while they receive care in Rochester.
Until we can build that space, we are looking for people in Rochester willing to open their homes. We will also provide hotel vouchers to those wanting a more private stay.
Resources
We are here to support people during any stage of their gender-affirming journey with resources that include education, city and country offerings, and tools that help during their stay.
From great queer reads to information to empower decision-making, we work to anticipate the needs of our guests. If you have helpful recommendations, please contact us via the information below.
Community
No one can survive in this world alone, especially during tumultuous times. MedCity REFUGE is a group that is not only there for the tough times, but to create the happy times too.
We strive to give people the support they need; whether it’s a shoulder to lean on or a game night with friends. For both the logistical and emotional, we are here to help.

We are currently in the process of obtaining hotel vouchers and finding welcoming homes in Rochester. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.
In the meantime, we want an understanding of what you need. Please reach out to us with suggestions and recommendations to help our guests feel as comfortable and cared for as possible.

If you are interested in joining the MedCity REFUGE team, we have regular meetings which you are welcome to join, virtually or in person.
If you are based in Rochester, we are looking for people willing to open their homes to MedCity REFUGE guests.
