We are MedCity REFUGE, a nonprofit organization which supports those coming to Rochester, MN for gender-affirming care.
Our aim is to
- support individuals who face significant obstacles in seeking gender-affirming care
- provide resources, community fellowship, and affordable lodging
- nurture the emotional and physical well-being of those on their medical journey
Our Work
Lodging
Everyone deserves a safe place, especially during times of great change. We are here to provide a basic human necessity — shelter. One day, our hope is to have a home to hold many guests and their supporters while they receive care in Rochester.
Until we can build that space, we provide subsidized housing at a partnering hotel in Rochester, MN. In the future, we also plan to look for people in Rochester who are willing to open their homes up to guests.
Resources
We are here to support people during any stage of their gender-affirming journey with resources that include education, city and country offerings, and tools that help during their stay.

Community
No one can survive in this world alone, especially during tumultuous times. MedCity REFUGE is a group that is not only there for the tough times, but to create the happy times too.
We strive to give people the support they need; whether it’s a shoulder to lean on or a game night with friends. For both the logistical and emotional, we are here to help.
